The Park HS Wind Ensemble will attend and perform at the 33rd Annual Suburban Eastern Conference Music Festival on February 3, 2020. This is a MSHSL Sanctioned event and akin to a playoff appearance. We will perform during the school day for the music students and teachers from the other 9 conference schools as well as Dr. Brian Balmages, Nationally acclaimed educator and composer (learn more about him here). He is a phenomenal conductor, musician and person. He will listen to each group and provide a 15-20 minute clinic of instruction. This is a fantastic growth opportunity for us in so many ways. We will be preparing 2 wonderful pieces: "Country Gardens" by Percy Grainger and "Fiesta de los Toros" by Brian Balmages (who is also our clinician!).

This performance is free and open to the public at 12:15pm in the Woodbury HS auditorium.

We have roughly 12 students who have been selected to participate in the All Conference Honor Band and the Honor Orchestra. Each school has representatives that combine for the 2 mass ensembles. Those students will perform at the Honors Concert that evening.

Audition materials are available here.

Students need to complete a "Teacher Permission Form" (Link is not available yet...), which can be downloaded to Notability and filled out electronically. (Click the green words....)

Please download these to "Notability".

As details become available, I will post them here. Please consider the following:

  • Students will meet at the band room at 6:45 on Feb 3. Please plan rides accordingly.

  • Students will need to bring a packed lunch as there will be no food sale services available. See me for assistance if this is a concern.

  • Students must bring appropriate concert attire. Their ties and dresses will be available at the school - BUT - they must bring black socks/shoes, white undershirt, black Camitank, etc.

  • Students are asked to wear "Park" gear and need to dress to the "nicer" end of the dress code. Please no sweats, ripped pants, and/or other "grubby" or "grungy" style clothing. We want to represent the Band and Park HS with pride.

  • Students will be either performing or listening to performances during the day. "Listening" includes evaluating with intelligent comments.

  • Students involved with the SEC Honor Band will be staying for an afternoon rehearsal and a night concert. Dinner will be provided. Students must arrange appropriate transportation home that evening.

Am very excited for this opportunity! If you have any questions, please contact me.

Mr. Storm
